Criminal defense may help man accused of using scissors as weapon

A man in New Jersey was recently taken into custody for reportedly pointing scissors at another man. The man is also accused of refusing to allow the victim to leave a house for over two hours. The arrested man would likely benefit from a strong criminal defense in light of the weapons charge that has been filed against him in connection with the incident.

The scissors incident took place on a Saturday.  According to authorities, the man who was arrested used the scissors to threaten the other party, ordering the victim to take a seat. He then allegedly continued to make threats toward the victim for around 2.5 hours.

The man currently faces not only a weapons offense charge but also a criminal restraint charge. He recently appeared in court on these charges and will make his next appearance in late September. Between now and then, he is not allowed to contact the victim.

Facing a weapons charge or another serious criminal charge can understandably be nerve-wracking. However, those who face these types of charges are always presumed innocent until and unless their guilt can be proved in a court of law. A prosecutor must prove such a charge beyond a reasonable doubt before any conviction can be secured. Alternatively, the accused individual may seek to strike a plea deal with the prosecution, which may result in a less serious charge and thus a more lenient sentence than what may result following a guilty verdict at trial. Either way, a criminal defense attorney in New Jersey will work for the best outcome for the defendant given the circumstances surrounding his or her arrest.
